The Cultural Resources and Historic Preservation Department is responsible for a wide array of projects and programs dealing with the cultural, historical and natural assets of the Upper Cumberland region. As the importance of green energy initiatives, natural resources protection, historical asset management and community-based preservation has become more apparent, the department expands its services. The Cultural Resources Manager implements programs designed to preserve, protect and promote the unique cultural and natural features of the region. This is accomplished primarily through work done in conjunction with state, federal and local governments and community organizations, and through grant writing. This includes, but is not limited to, National Register of Historic Places research and nominations, Tennessee Department of Transportation, Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation, and Tennessee Department of Tourism programs and projects.
